How many sessions do I get? How long is each session?

Medicare provides coverage for 10 sessions per calendar year, with an initial allocation for the first referral and an additional 4 for a review. After utilising these sessions, you’ll need to wait until the following year for more coverage.

What is the Medicare rebate?

If you have a mental health care plan, the current Medicare rebate is $96.65. Please call us directly to discuss our gap fee.

What should I bring to my first session?

If you are under Medicare:

  • Mental Health Care Plan.
  • Medicare card.
  • Payment card – to ensure rebate processing.

If you are under WorkCover:

  • Approval for psychological counselling document.

If you are under the NDIS:

  • A physical copy of your plan.

Do I need a referral for my first session?

You will need a Mental Health Care Treatment Plan from your GP if you would like to claim your sessions under Medicare. No referral is needed if you’d like to see your psychologist privately.

How do I book an appointment?

At MacPsych, bookings are by consultation only. Please call us to book an appointment if you are a new or existing client.

If I need to cancel what do I do and is there a cancellation fee?

If you need to cancel an appointment, it has to be within 24 notice. Please call our practice number, alternatively, contact your psychologist. We do appreciate 24 hour notice due to our waiting list. The clinic enforces a $94 cancellation fee for appointments canceled within 24 hours of the scheduled time. Failure to pay this fee will result in the inability to schedule another appointment.

How confidential are my sessions?

The content of all sessions is strictly confidential, and your information will remain private unless you provide written consent for disclosure. However, in the event of a subpoena for your file, you will be informed, as psychologists are legally obligated to comply with such request.
